St. Petersburg High school is one of the oldest schools in Pinellas County (founded in 1898) and is known for its IB (INternational Baccalaureate) program. The traditions are strong, but traditionally the volleyball program has not been - until now:) We are halfway through our season and are 11-3; 2 of our 3 losses were matches where a starter was unable to play due to illness or injury. We are in a relatively tough District and also in a strong County that has been known for volleyball for years and includes consecutive 2 time state championship winner East Lake, powerhouse Palm Harbor University, state final 4 team Tarpon Springs, and Clearwater High School (state champs in 1997 and 1999).

Seeing how tough the competition is has helped motivate the team to work hard year around. This year we have a team full of motivated and dedicated individuals who really want to accomplish their goal of winning Districts and being a competitive team in the County and state of Florida. Carrington Kilgroe is a senior outside hitter who leads the team in digs and is second in kills. Her strong all around play has helped us pull off some exciting victories against teams such as Clearwater (this year was the first time we have beat them in school history in volleyball), Casey Houlton is a strong middle blocker who leads the county in blocks and her ability to run a strong slide and a quick middle attack provides us with a dynamic and successful offense. Since being a freshman on varsity she has really helped changed the work ethic, dedication and discipline for those that want to be a part of our program. Our sophomore setter, Holly Welch, has really stepped up and embraced her role on the varsity team and is running a fast, well balanced offense. She also has a strong serve and is 4th in the county in aces. Tori Alexander is a junior left handed right side with an aggressive jump serve that has resulted in her being ranked first in the county in aces. She is a solid all around player that has contributed to the program's success since her freshman year when she made varsity. Junior middle blocker Carly Danner has stepped up and done a great job offensively and with blocking, freshman outside Kaylan Marckese brings a lot of athleticism, raw talent and aggressiveness to the floor and our sophomore libero Tiffany Phetsadasack has worked hard to earn her spot and plays her heart out in every match we play. Seniors Megan Towzey, Jackie Mosher, and Natalie Meyer are also strong versatile players that are able to take the floor in any match and contribute to our success. The strength and unity of all 12 of our varsity players really has impacted our growth and success and the effort the entire team puts forth is inspiring. Hopefully, great things are still to come for us in this 2012 season!
